'The Open Couple' reviews
The List Magazine issue 609
7th August 2008, Paul Dale

This re-improvised restaging of Dario Fo and Franca Rame's superb, oft
overlooked 1983 two-hander is a delight. Though too young for their roles (Fo
and Rame played them in their 50s), Stuart Brennan and Jennifer Dean are
brilliantly convincing as the philandering husband and wife, while Peter
Snee's direction is imaginative and seamless. RECOMMENDED.

If you want laughs and a few naughty sniggers then The Open
Couple is for you. After seeing the review The List had given this
play (****) I was intrigued but slightly sceptical. However, the
show was outstanding: although the set is minimal and the actors are
playing well out of their playing range I was swept away by the
chemistry and charisma behind the two performers which was also
supported by the superb text. Snee's direction is innovative and
original taking the audience on a direct journey of despair, passion
and jealousy. Although perhaps not suitable for younger children,
this show caters for everyones ones sense of humour: from physical
to subtle and sarcastic. All in all a genuinely fun show.

well what a refreshing hour! As a frequent visitor to the
festival, I am no stranger to paying over the odds for shows
claiming to be the best thing on at the festival. After Reading the
4* review in the list I decided to give this show a try and actors
Stuart Brennan and Jennifer Dean delivered an extremely entertaining
hour of boundless energy and relentless pace, thank you for this
engaging hour of political comedy.

***** I went to see this show today after reading a four star
review in The List, and I was not disappointed. The show was
refreshing and fun with the two actors working relentlessly, keeping
me smiling through-out. The well-known playwright delivers an
exciting and intelligent script, which is expertly executed by the
cast. My husband and I particularly enjoyed the reality that
perfectly reflected the common arguments of our marriage, making
this comedy a definite a must-see at this years festival. Well done.

A consummate performance, with all the potential to be a truly
classic interpretation. Go and book tickets I say.
